Dear Angelica, Gardner, and All:

In this original practices group, Gardner should take the bass-playing Brian Wilson slot. Angelica might move to cello, as we hear on "Good Vibrations." I'll contribute Chuck Berry-style lead guitar, a la Carl Wilson. We still have openings for rhythm guitar, drums, and more.

Anyone for Theremin?

Speaking of blasts from the past, Chris Grose and I revisit Milton's *Maske* here --

Chris and Steve play the blues: "Glutinous Heat" is adapted from John Milton's *Maske at Ludlow Castle*, particularly the temptation speeches of Comus.

With every good wish,

Steve

Dear all, especially Gardner,

Doesn't Stephen Buhler (U o' Nebraska) also play bass. I used to in my youth. I'm thinking a "viol trio" that I hope will not be a "vile trial" on the ears! Nice to join in on the birthday cheer. My best to all.

Especially on original instruments with original performance practices.

(I claim bass.)

Happy birthday, John Milton!

Here in Bloomington California, at Bloomington High School, we celebrated, early, Milton's birthday with a reading of Lycidas-and a discussion of the importance and value of Milton and poetry. The students were enthusiastic and curious. Milton is not dead! He lives on and will for eons.
