Miltonists may be interested to know of two events being organised by the International John Bunyan Society.

The first is a one-day conference, to be held at the University of Bedfordshire, Bedford Campus, Friday 10 April 2015, entitled REPRESENTING DISSENT IN THE LONG EIGHTEENTH CENTURY. Plenary speakers are Professor Anne Dunan-Page (Aix-Marseille Université), 'The Dissenters and their Church Books: Recording and Representing Experience', and Dr Tessa Whitehouse (Queen Mary University of London), '"The Christian's Meekness and the Poet's Fire": Representing Women Readers and Writers'. The deadline to propose a paper is 1 February, and the deadline to register for attendance is 10 March: please email Professor Bob Owens atbob.owens at beds.ac.uk<mailto:bob.owens at beds.ac.uk>. Attendance is free of charge. The conference opens at 10.00am, and ends at 5.00pm. Prior registration is essential as numbers are limited. Morning and afternoon refreshments and a light lunch will be provided, costing £10 payable on the day. We are able to offer financial assistance with travel costs of postgraduate students. Please email bob.owens at beds.ac.uk<mailto:bob.owens at beds.ac.uk>  giving the following details: name; title; postal address; why you would need help with travel costs.

The second is a three-day international conference, entitled VOICING DISSENT IN THE LONG REFORMATION. This will be the 8th Triennial Conference of the International John Bunyan Society, and will be held at Aix-en-Provence (France), 6-9 July 2016. The plenary speakers will be Alec Ryrie (Durham), Andrew Spicer (Oxford Brookes), Alexandra Walsham (Cambridge), and Helen Wilcox (Bangor).The conference will concentrate on the expression and representation of Protestant Dissent, Nonconformity and Puritanism (1500-1800), with an emphasis on the relationship between written and oral cultures. Topics might include: preaching, singing and praying; public and private devotion; conferences and disputations; epistolary conversation; religion and politics; rumour and defamation; reading and publishing Dissent; the representation of emotions. The deadline for proposals of papers (or panels) is 31 May 2015. Bursaries are available for doctoral students and young researchers.
