Martin Evans

Such a sweet person, decent, quiet, good-hearted. He wore his learning
lightly and had no shred of arrogance. I was lucky enough to have
published some of his work and to have reviewed some of his understated
masterworks of criticism. He was a good comrade, uttlerly without malice,
and always generous towards his colleagues and students.

He should be wept for, in gratitude for his having graced our presence.
