[Milton-L] question about a source

Dear Bob and Nathaniel,

Many thanks for this! Rowse's phrase is the one that stuck in my head, but I doubt that I would have been able to find it without your help. I tried Google and it buried me under mountains of commentaries, but not (when I looked) the precise phrase I was looking for.

  Hi John,

I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for, but a quick google books search turned up Rowse's /Milton the Puritan/ and P.J. Klemp's /The Essential Milton/. Also, in /A Critique of Paradise Lost/, John Desmond Peter complains that Satan "has almost disappeared under a mountain of commentary."

  Good luck.
