Some list members may have already seen this op-ed from yesterday's New York Times, but as readers and scholars of another notoriously mal-quoted writer (my coinage for the poor use of a technically correct quotation, to distinguish it from misquoted), others who haven't yet seen it may find this piece of interest.

In its own way, the poor use of this passage from Virgil reminds us of interesting use allusion, citation, and revision, all of which are part of the woof and warp of Milton's poetry, too.

Cheers,

Jeffrey
