Yes, of course, Nancy. I realized what his reference was, after
considering that "adultery" didn't make much sense. But my point was
that it wasn't my initial reaction, and that the association with
Hester would put him in a sympathetic light.
To that extent, I think it worked counter to the poet's intent, but
maybe not. His Antichrist strikes me as a confused child thrust into a
role he doesn't quite understand, or accept.
