While I do not "buy" what Munkacsy seems to be showing, I still enjoy what I see in his painting. I feel like the daughters might represent the attitudes of various readers who come to Milton since his day, some with admiration and some who would "just like to get the hell out of here," attitudes I have observed in my own students over the years.

My favorite is Mihaly Munkacsy's "Blind Milton dictating'Paradise Lost' to his daughters" (or just "Milton", oil on canvas,1877-1878) which can be found at either the Hungarian National Galleryin Budapest or the Public Library in New York (or so I understand from this source - <http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.artunframed.com/images/Monet55/munkacsy109.jpg&imgrefurl=http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview%3Fid%3D17627&h=605&w=800&sz=81&hl=en&start=15&sig2=rQa0nLG7bT62bGprAUlzkA&tbnid=LdvoC8-48LT73M:&tbnh=108&tbnw=143&ei=D0yjR6GAOKPgeKyK2PAC&prev=/images%3Fq%3DMih%25C3%25A1ly%2BMunk%25C3%25A1csy%2BMilton%26gbv%3D2%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DG>).This picture has served as my wallpaper for quite a few years now.Greg Lowe
