[Milton-L] Milton and Lady, er, Princess Di?

I've only googled a bit, but it would appear that Edmund Spenser's later claims
to be related to the Spencers of Althorp (Princess Di's family) might have been
padding for his resume. At least they cannot now be substantiated, though they
have been graciously nodded at by the Spencers. Sounds a bit like "Milton's
mulberry tree" at Christ's College, Cambridge, which makes for a good story but
finally could not have been planted by him. Is there a Spenserian who can speak
further to this?
