Start with C. S. Lewis, Preface to PL, pp. 112-13, and go on to Gregory
Bredbeck's book, Sodomy and Interpretation:  From Marlowe to Milton.
The essay by Claude J. Summers (already cited) is terrific.

about /Paradise Lost/ and homosocial bonding, quoting a comment on 
Milton in Eve Sedgwick's /Between Men/.
