Dear Colleagues:

Please find below a Call for Papers for the next RSA to be held in Chicago, April 3 to 5, 2008:

Panel Title: "Strange Bedfellows: Milton and Seventeenth-Century Women Writers"

Sponsor: Society for the Study of Early Modern Women

This panel seeks to explore the common ground that exists between Milton and early modern women writers. Previous feminist scholarship has already addressed Milton's influence on later women writers (of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries). In addition, some preliminary work has begun to question the extent of that great divide that has been assumed to exist between Milton and his female contemporaries. How and on what terms can this divide be traversed? What interconnections, confluences, and interfaces exist between Milton's writings (whether poetical or polemical) and those composed by his female contemporaries in the seventeenth century?

Please send proposals of approximately 250 words in Word, Wordperfect, or pdf form, along with a brief (one-page) c.v., to Heather Campbell (hcampbel at yorku.ca) and Margaret Reeves at mreeves at yorku.ca by April 30th, 2007.
