Just want to second "talking it through" before testing them. Many
first year students, at least, have difficulties with Milton's
language, but start getting it when walked through some passages line
by line, esp. making references to ambiguities as they arise--that way
if they're not getting something, they know it's not necessarily them.
May want to do parts of the first book with them in class before
assigning the text and then turn them loose on it, to be tested later.
