Fascinating! Wouldn't one have wanted to be a fly on the wall during
THAT meeting. Do you happen to have the date of this meeting at hand?
I'm assuming it was during JM's Grand Tour in 1638.

Jameela mentioned Gordon's 'A Milton Chronology' which I looked
62-65, finding no specific mention of St. Peter's. However, it mentions,
65, that "JM has a private audience with Cardinal Franscesco Barberini
was then Prime Minister of Rome and cheif adviser to his uncle Pope
VIII. Would this audience have been in the Vatican? If so how close to
