[Milton-L] Memorization

Another student's opinion:

I agree wholeheartedly with Kathryn's wonderful, direct, and blatantly honest opinions concerning the efficacy of memorization. 

When you memorize, you are better able to comprehend a text and discern hidden meanings and patterns (especially with a poet as involved and complicated as Milton) because you are constantly repeating words either orally or mentally. 

As for professors who give in to their students' lethargy, Kathryn put it wonderfully: they know pop songs verbatim, sports results, movie star trivia, etc. Obviously, they can memorize; they just have bad taste.
