[SpiderRiders] RE: Motorcycle parking

Thanks for the update, Kerri.

Actually, Kim Spencer and I share a space in the Law School parking lot
(she rides too, obviously).

Regarding a motorcycle parking area, my opinion is that parking is
already at a premium here on campus and designating spaces for specific
types of vehicles only serves to discriminate (are people really going
to run out and buy a new "green" car because they'll get preferred
parking?). My personal opinion is that all parking spaces should be
available to anyone on a first-come first-served basis (except handicap
spaces, of course!).

My original message regarding the hybrid spots was meant to be a
facetious, tongue-in-cheek jab at Parking Services' seemingly
discrimination against us "non-hybrid" drivers. The point was supposed
to be that my non-hybrid motorcycle got 70 MPG... far better than any
hybrid... yet they are the ones rewarded for being "green." And, what's
going to happen when more and more hybrids inevitably show up in our
lots? Will I even be able to park on campus?

Hi Steve,

If you've been following USAC meeting notes at all, you know that the
hybrid parking space discussion is still alive and kicking.
Tangentially related, another person submitted to us the idea of
developing motorcycle parking, where two motorcycles could share a
standard sized parking space. We floated this idea to Natalia Green,
and she was very positive and in fact said if people brought that idea
directly to her, she would move forward with proposing such spaces. I'm
unsure if this is something you're interested in, but since you are a
motorcyclist I figured you might want to take the reins and talk to
Natalia again.

See you this afternoon at our very important goal-setting meeting J, and
thanks for participating in the discussion,

Kerri
