Dear Students,
The Office of Pre-law Advising has planned various informative and
interesting events for the beginning of the spring semester that are open
to anyone thinking of attending law school. Mark your calendars for these
excellent opportunities to gain insight and advice into the process of
applying to and attending law school!
On Wednesday January 31st at 7pm, in the Commons Game Room, Phi Alpha
Delta and the UR Office of Pre-law Advising are co-sponsoring a
reception for all students considering applying to law school to meet and
talk with representatives from Phi Alpha Delta Pre-law Society and Prof.
Mark McGarvie, Pre-law advisor at UR. The reception gives
students a chance to get personal advice from both students who are
applying to law school and the Pre-law advisor. This night is open to any
student who is or may be interested in applying to law school.
On Wednesday, February 6, at 7pm, attorney Martha Kimes, author of Ivy
Briefs, an informative and humorous story of her experiences as a first
year law student at Columbia University Law School will tell students of
her experiences in applying to and attending law school. Ms. Kimes talk
will prove to be both entertaining and instructive.
On April 2, at 7pm, representatives from the admissions departments of
several law schools will address the topic of how law school admissions
people read and consider applications. Noe Bernal, Asst. Dean of
Admissions from Villanova Law School, Lillie V.Wiley Upshaw, Assoc. Dean
of Admissions from SUNY at Buffalo Law School, and Faye Shealy, Associate
Dean of Admissions from William and Mary Law School will head a panel that
will share perspectives with and answer questions from students.
Look for Spiderbytes and email reminders of these events closer to the
dates. Please spread the word of these great opportunities for pre-law
students! If you have any questions, please email prelaw at richmond.edu.
I hope to see you at one or more of these events,
Prof. Mark McGarvie
Director of the UR Office of Pre-law Advising
