Hi everybody!

As this is our first group e-mail this academic year, I would like to
welcome all of our new members and congratulate you on making a fine
choice of institutions in which to be tortured with undecipherable cases
like Pennoyer v. Neff. As the school's initials so plainly state, URSoL
now. Sorry for the bad joke, humor is obviously not one of my
strengths. Hopefully your first few weeks have gone well and you have
reached a certain level of comfort with your new routine.

I would also like to welcome back all of the 2L's and 3L's and say that,
although the summer zipped by much too quickly, I am very happy to see
you all again.

This Friday, 9/15, NLSA is co-hosting two events about which we are very
excited. First, at noon, we have invited a group of local attorneys to
answer questions about "Marketing Your Experience". Our own Will Rabke
will moderate, and I strongly urge everyone attend because this topic
applies to us all. Each of the attorneys has 'walked the same path' as
many of us, successfully transitioning from old career(s) to the
practice of law. Find out what elements of your experience to stress
and how to avoid the potential pitfalls that may lurk in the minds of an
employer. LUNCH will be served, courtesy of the Career Services Office!
1L's: please join us! December 1st will be here before you know it.
Come ask employers how you should spin your experience on your resume
before you are sitting across a table from them. 3L's too! Your
experiences in the hiring process will add to the discussion! And 2L's:
you better sign up or I will hunt you down and use all of the techniques
I learned growing up Catholic to give you a guilt trip you'll never
forget...!

Then, starting at 5:00pm, the family down under behind the school will
give us an opportunity to drink, eat, and be merry. There will be
activities for kids, including a moon-bounce, and fun for all. Because
we are co-hosting this event as well, I do need to ask for volunteers to
fill the following roles:

            Set-up 4:00 - 5:00 pm
(1)

            Serve Beer 5:00 - 6:00 pm
(1) (Note: you get your refills faster in this job!)

            Serve Beer 6:00 - 7:00 pm
(1)

            Make Sno-cones 5:00 - 6:00 pm (1)

            Make Sno-cone 6:00 - 7:00 pm (1)

            Clean up 7:00 - 8:00 pm
(2)

Please let me know if you can help out ASAP! I look forward to seeing
everyone on Friday!

Matt

P.S. You are receiving this e-mail either because you are on the NLSA
list serve and I have been too busy (lazy) to take the graduates off of
it, you signed up at orientation, or your name was on a list I received
from admissions identifying married couples. If you would like for me
to stop pestering you in the future, please let me know!
