This reasoning requires us to work hard to drum up an expressive purpose for stressing "and" in the line in question. And it requires us to suppose that a highly able Hellenist, armed with an illustrious classical precedent in a familiar iambic text, would feel himself obliged to defer to the Anglicizing practices of non-Hellenists.
