You know, Jim W and Michael, I think I've been confusing Is There a
Text in This Class with SbS on a few points.  I'm still inclined to
think SbS implicitly assumed specific qualities in Milton's readers
and that Fish's later works made the implicit explicit, but I can't
support this without finding a copy of SbS.

Doesn't reception theory / reception histories assume communities of
interpreters that need to be clearly defined?
