During my M.Phil oral exam (in the U.S.) I cited that U of T inscription, specifically the part about a strong man shaking his locks after sleep. A certain very well-known and eminent Spenser scholar on my committee, for whom I have nothing but respect and affection, responded, involuntarily, "_in Canada_?" JDF

Also worth notice is the famous frieze of a long passage of _Areopagitica_ in the Great Hall of Hart House at the University of Toronto. I have no photos, but I do attach a link to Christopher Hitchens's November 2006 address on free speech from that room, where he places Milton alongside Paine and Mill in the 'great tradition of English liberty' (!):
