[Milton-L] Attacks on Milton and Civility on Milton-L

The past several days have been sad -- and even distressing. There has been misunderstanding on all sides, in my opinion.
But let us try to turn this around. The WAH Center's celebration of Milton's 400th birthday continues beyond the opening costume ball. I suggest that we make the most of the attention being given to Milton:

We might not see the appropriateness of every celebrant's work -- I certainly don't -- but not every artist is a scholar. In fact, few are. I suggest that we gladly accept that Milton's legacy includes an influence on artists and on popular culture. If this generates more interest in Milton and brings more students into Milton courses, then all the better.
Meanwhile, let's enjoy the party.

P.S. I realize that I've not been observing the unformalized rule of one post per day, but dammit, there's a party going on, and we're missing it!

It was my saddest day as well, Joe.
Please let's end this recapitulation of the Fall.

Yesterday was the saddest day ever for Milton studies--in MY lifetime. Well...
