[Milton-L] a word about the list

Dear Miltonists,
There have been aspects of the recent discussion I've enjoyed, even if
comments became rather (and in my view unnecessarily) overheated on both
sides.
But at the risk of sounding like an old grouch, may I suggest that--in
keeping with the list's name--we do place the emphasis on discussion:
calm, patient, considered. Some lists, I think wisely, encourage
contributors to post no more than once a day. That little rule imposes a
kind of discipline on the discussion and discourages a lot of
shoot-from-the-hip crossfire. In other words, it keeps the discussion
list from becoming a chat room--and helps prevent a situation in which a
majority of list members get fed up with the sheer volume of postings.
This is a great list for a fine community. Surely it's worth whatever
restraint and effort are required to keep it that way.
Best regards,
Dennis D
