FROM TERRANCE LINDALL:

Dear Milton Scholars:

As our festival honoring John Milton draws to it’s finish on November
2nd, I wanted to share with you one of the last wonderful events, a
musical IN 17th CENTURY COSTUME BY CANDLELIGHT. I have put up a few
excerpts from the October 17th performance on Youtube, hoping to
entice those of you who can come to the October 24th performance this
friday at 8 PM. It is an intimate setting in the historic paneled mid
19th C. grand reception hall of our art center.

Part 3) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5tiYxB02BqE
Part 4) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sd9ffYzQZB0

Many of the 15 works of music presented (see list below) have never
been performed or recorded in modern times. In this production we
have Lisa Kelly on harp, Heather Arzberger on classical guitar and
Arthur Kirmss as narrator, soprano-alto, bass-baritone, etc. I was
deeply moved by the production done at my request for the festival.

We had a visit to our show from Laurel Bradley, Director of Carlton
Colleges Art Collection in Minnesota. She loved it. We
enthusiastically decided we should have a second Paradise Lost costume
ball out in Northfield Minnesota in the dead of winter in two years.
Of course we will have a Milton exhibit too. Imagine hot toddies by a
roasting fire among the pine trees! Wolves howling outside the door
while we are safe inside celebrating and reciting Milton. Tim Raylor
is the Milton scholar out there. I think it would be a great place to
convene “Carter’s Conclave” of Milton scholars on “Why Milton
Matters.” We would record it on video.

Sadly, on November 2nd our Milton festival ends. On that day, S.
David will do a “poet’s tour" of the show at 3 PM, reciting his own
work in response some paintings in the show. He will also sign his new
book. Afterwards is the ‘Artist’s Dinner.” Each artist and ANYONE WHO
WANTS TO COME will bring a dish they have prepared or contribute $10
to the dinner. The art center supplies free wine and beer. I hope some
of you will come and sit down with my artists and have a jolly time!
They are always animated and exciting events.

I will soon start work on my elephant folio, sooner rather than later.
The book, as currently envisioned, will be 23 X 16 inches. Each of the
five or ten (at most) copies that I produce will be unique - different
bindings, and each personally dedicated to the owner. I am thinking
that the covers may be identified by different motifs, such as the
"Archangel Michael" or the "Lucifer," etc. I will see as things
progress. Each copy will have one c. 1979 conceptual drawing (or
perhaps a finished drawing) from the project.. The design, production
and hand finishing of the first copy may take up to a year.
