Myself and a Rhet/Comp scholar are organizing a panel for the upcoming
Society for the Interdisciplinary Study of Social Imagery conference:
THE IMAGE OF THE OUTSIDER in Literature, Media, and Society (Mar.
13-15, Colorado Springs, CO).

We're both presenting on the theme of labor, liberalism, and media
technology. My paper is titled "William Blake, a Publishing Outsider:
Print Technology and Anti-Liberalism in Blake's Illuminated Works of
the 1790s." My co-presenter's paper is titled "YouTube Work: Labor,
Liberalism, Value."
We're looking for one or two more papers on this theme to join our
panel. Since my paper examines this theme in the late 18thC, and my
co-presenter's in the late 20th/early 21st, third or fourth papers
would ideally focus either on 17thC, early 18thC, mid to late 19thC,
or early 20thC media technology. Literary papers are welcome, of
course, but should include a media technology dimension situating both
the literature and pertinent media technology in relationship to
liberalism or labor, preferably both.
If you feel you have something close but not quite perfect, please
contribute a proposal. We will consider all proposals keeping with
the conference theme.
Thank you,
Jim Rovira
