My favorite place is St. Margaret's Hotel, 26 Bedford Place, just around the corner from the British Museum. Now that the Library has moved, it's not as convenient as in the old days. Still, a nice place in a great location.

Enjoy your journey.

Marlene, sorry to ask such a naive question, but what is LSE?

Many university halls of residence let out rooms during the vacation, and they're cheap and very central. I have good experience of LSE halls - go to the LSE website, click on Accomodation and then on Vacations.

All
I'm planning on being in England over the Christmas holidays, and would like to spend some time in London doing some Milton gazing to replenish my soul. It has been a while since I've done this and I know prices have really soared (not to mention the exchange rate!). I appreciate any tips on places to stay (week before Christmas) that won't entirely break the bank? I'd do the YHA if I didn't have to worry about luggage storage. The B&Bs I once knew and used have all changed hands and quality seemed to have dissipated the last few trips in country. Many thanks for any tidbits that may be of use...
