And of course Satan lands on the Tree of Life "for prospect" once he's
in the garden, so presumably he has a pretty good sense of the trees
nearby, though he wouldn't know that the nearest grew prohibited fruit.

Hello Christy,
The sun shining from the west strikes the eastern gate, as viewed from
inside the Garden.
At 4.424, Satan overhears Adam tell Eve that the Tree of Knowledge grows
next to the Tree of Life. The Tree of Life is the tallest and most
central tree (4.195), so maybe Satan guesses correctly, or maybe there
is some other information I've missed.

Hello all, hoping some one can lift the veil. Two questions ( I'm new to
this): In book IV the setting sun "Against the eastern gate of Paradise
levelled his evening rays" Am I missing something here, as the sun
always sets in the West? Also, how does Satan know which is the tree of
Knowledge of Good and Evil: where did he get this information from: I
mean about this particular tree, which happens to be the very tree Eve
recognises as the tree of prohibition in book IX ?
What in me is dark illumine, please
Regards,
Christy
