Hello Christy,

The sun shining from the west strikes the eastern gate, as viewed from
inside the Garden.

At 4.424, Satan overhears Adam tell Eve that the Tree of Knowledge grows
next to the Tree of Life. The Tree of Life is the tallest and most central
tree (4.195), so maybe Satan guesses correctly, or maybe there is some other
information I¹ve missed.
