[Milton-L] attitudes to Calvin

This might not be directly relevant, but Marilynne Robinson offers a
spirited defense of Calvin (by way of trying to rescue him from the
encrusted stereotypes) in a two-part essay called "Marguerite de Navarre" in
her collection _The Death of Adam_. I haven't read it in a while, but I
remember finding it provocative. The core of her argument is that people
should actually *read* Calvin instead of assuming they know all there is to
know about him. Of course, the present inquiry is not guilty of such
reductionism, but the essay might be helpful nonetheless.
