Hello, all!

For Miltonists residing in the US:

Some of you may have received a letter of notification concerning this, but if, like me, you did not, it may be something you'll be interested in knowing about. It concerns a class action suit against the credit companies that sponsor Visa/Mastercard/Diners Club, covering purchases made between 1996-2006 in non-US locations; apparently, in violation of Federal anti-trust laws, they conspired to conceal surcharges applied to foreign transactions from their customers, to the tune of $336 million. The details are at http://www.ccfsettlement.com/, but please note that you must file before 30 May to participate in the class litigation. (There are FAQs at the site related to those who used corporate or academic credit cards, etc. .) For those of you who are retired, or are independent scholars, the rebate could be quite substantial, though: up to 3% of estimated or documented purchases.

You can file electronically at https://www.ccfsettlement.com/claim/ if you've received a letter with a claim form identification number; if not, write to the Settlement Administrator using the online form at https://www.ccfsettlement.com/contact/ and request one.

The source of this information was AARP, so it is neither a hoax nor a scam.

Best to all,

Carol Barton
