Further to my ealier reply I have consulted the GA list and the experts have come up with 2 books on Innes - not that there is any guarantee that they consider the question of Miltonic allusions!

George L Scheper:Michael Innes , 1986 (publisher Ungar) - I have no comments as to the quality of this book

J I M Stewart:Myself and Michael Innes, 1988 - Stewart's autobiography obviously. I imagine this would be an entertaining read even if it did not touch on the specific question.

There are several epigraphs from _Paradise Lost_, _Paradise> Regained_ and _Comus_, and the plot reminds me of _Comus_ to a certain> extent.> Does anyone know about discussions in print on Milton and Innes (a.k.a.> J.I.M. Stewart).
