The law regarding treason was updated for the first time in centuries
under Henry VIII at the urging of Thomas Cromwell. It made imagining
and compassing the death of the king treason. So, just thinking
about killing the king was treason. This law and its elasticity, so
to speak, were used to bring down Sir Thomas More, Anne Boleyn, and
even Cromwell himself.
