Milton's 400th was celebrated in August in Brisbane with a lively
symposium on Milton in Intellectual and Cultural History, which drew
Milton scholars as well as historians and political theorists from
Australia, New Zealand, and farther afield (as well as a remarkable
cattle rancher who traveled over 1,000 miles to attend). The
symposium was capped by "A Life beyond Life," a day-long reading of
selections of Milton's works, which attracted a large audience from
the general public.
The events occasioned several national radio broadcasts, available
now as 50-minute podcasts.
