Dear Miltonists, 

It saddens me greatly to announce that Professor Richard Helgerson of UC Santa Barbara died on Saturday, after a long battle with cancer.  In addition to being an award-winning, ground-breaking, and inspiring scholar, he was also a wonderful teacher and mentor.  The field of Renaissance literature has lost a great man. 

A memorial service will be held on May 23rd at UC Santa Barbara.  His colleagues at UCSB have posted a full obituary as well as reflections on his scholarly and teaching career at http://emc.english.ucsb.edu
