Dear All

As far as I can make out the above edition of the Complete Poems and Essential Prose is not yet published in the UK; nor have I found evidence of plans so to do. Or am I being a bit obtuse? Can anyone enlighten me?

Best

Matt Jordan

Subject: [Milton-L] arguments

The arguments were added to the fourth (1668), fifth (1669), and
sixth (1669) title page issues of the first edition of PL. There are,
of course, ten books and thus ten arguments. The printer Samuel
Simmons apparently requested them. Added also were "The Verse" and
"The Errata." In the fourth and fifth issues there is also a note
from the Printer to the Reader explaining the additions; it does not
appear with the sixth issue. For the second edition (1674) the
arguments for books 7 and 10 were split in two because those books
were split in two: 7 = 7-8; (8 = 9) and 9 = 10); 10 = 11-12.

John
