[Milton-L] Remember Va Tech

Thank you, Cynthia, for this reminder. I was heartened to see a report in some newspaper (maybe the online NYT, it wasn't my local paper) on Prof & Mrs Cloyd of VA Tech. Their daughter was one of those slain in the massacre, and as a memorial to her they requested donations to a fund to repair houses in Appalachia. With the $70k raised, they have taken several groups of students into remote areas and fixed leaky roofs and rotting porches, to the great thanks of those helped and to the enlightenment of the students who did such difficult things as pour concrete footings while sloshing around in mud a foot deep.
However, what immediately popped into my mind when I read Cynthia's post was "Avenge, O Lord, thy slaughtered saints . . .", but when the forgiveness evidenced by the Cloyds' actions and by Cynthia's reminder of the suffering of the gunman's family, I would like to think that the vengeance Milton would seek would also be that higher one of metanoia and forgiveness.

I found last year that maybe half a dozen students in all of my classes did NOT have some connection - friends, family - with Virginia Tech. One young lady who goes to our church was in the building when the shootings took place, and lost two good friends.
So please join us at that time. And do spare a thought or prayer for the young man who did this, and particularly his family, who have cut themselves off from the world and their own community. There was an article about their withdrawel in yesterday's WPost. They are as much their son'd victims as anyone.
