[Milton-L] 3 references

Dear scholars,

I am putting finishing touches on a chapter on Milton and James Russell
Lowell for a collection of essays NOT directed to Miltonists primarily.

I seek your aid in making every endnote count in terms of educating scholars
in other specialty areas.  I want to endnote 3 works (preferably books, but
chapters and articles are fine too) ‹ 1 from the 21st century, 1 from
1980-90s, and 1 from 1900-1979 ‹ that focus on the way Milton¹s contemporary
politics find their way into his poetry. (Works that also treat the prose
are fine, if they give due time to the poetry).  Do you have any references
that you find particularly helpful to non-Miltonists?  I have some ideas but
am seeking collaboration for the best benefit to readers.
