A quick note by a mere babe in Milton's woods to let everyone know that about 30 (of 75) students enrolled in the Harvard University Extension School course "John Milton and Paradise Lost" met this past Saturday at the Salem (MA) Athenaeum for a marathon reading of Paradise Lost. Milton's first word was uttered at 9:30 a.m. and the last word sounded at 9:23 p.m. Hershey's Kisses were offered at the moment Satan first spied the Edenic couple kissing in the Garden, an apple was eaten by all at that dreadful moment in Book IX, food and drink flowed freely and Angel Food Cake and Devil's Food Cake were offered (each had to choose which!) at night's end. It was a wonderful opportunity arranged by Professor Sue Weaver Schopf.
