Bartleby.com, big online reference site, has a daily home page that
features an anniversary with biographical sketch of the subject, a
dictionary definition, a quotation, and a poem. It's great fun.
For the second consecutive year, it features John Milton, b. December
9, 1608. The biographical sketch from the Columbia Encyclopedia is a
useful summary and has a terse and comprehensive bibliography that
cuts off in the mid-1970s.
The quotation and the poem are both from Milton: the familiar "I
cannot praise a fugitive and cloistered virtue . . ." and the almost
unfamiliar "Upon the Circumsion."

Hurry, it will go away around midnight EST.
