Hi everyone,

I am writing to send an early invitation for all of you to take part in
a planning session for an Interreligious Council here at the University
of Richmond, sponsored by the Office of the Chaplaincy. We will be
holding the planning meeting in the Interfaith Room on the first floor
of Wilton Center, from 2:30-4:00p.m. on Wednesday, March 26.

We would like to have an Interreligious and Religious Diversity Council
in place for the university in the next academic year, so we really need
your help in talking about its structure and organization. Ideally we
would like this to be a council composed of students as well as
faculty/staff, and potentially local community partners as well, which
would meet regularly during the academic year to discuss issues relating
to religious diversity and interreligious dialogue on campus, to advise
the Chaplaincy's IRCJ Office on programming and activities, and perhaps
take on other roles as well.

This planning session will be a time for open brainstorming and big
ideas, as well as talking about practical questions like how membership
on the council might be structured and reasonable expectations about how
often it might meet during the academic year.

We would love for all of you to take part. Even if you don't think you
would be interested in serving on the council itself - and even if you
are a senior who won't be here next year - if you care about building a
community that values religious diversity and interfaith dialogue, we
really need your help and insight.

I will send out some more announcements about the planning session as we
get closer to March 26, but I wanted to contact you early so you can put
the date on your calendars. If you have any questions about the
planning meeting or about the idea of an Interreligious Council in
general, please don't hesitate to contact me at mwhite3 at richmond.edu or
x8997.

All the best,

Matthew
