See below; this is part of the "satellite festivities" surrounding the
last Global Environmental Speaker Series event next week. This
particular event will be more international than environmental but will
be of interest to many of you.
More information on the last GESS speaker will follow this weekend; stay
tuned.

Black in Brazil: Hanging dolls, blackface, gender and poverty in the
southern hemisphere
Dr. Vera Reis, an Afro-Brazilian biologist, will be in the Commons Think
Tank on Monday, April 7th, from 6-7 pm to engage student questions in an
informal roundtable on race, gender, and poverty in Brazil. Dr. Reis
overcame Brazil's particular brands of poverty, sexism, and racism to
become an internationally recognized research scientist specializing in
the sustainable development of the Southwestern Amazon. This is part of
the International and Environmental Studies Programs' Global Environment
Speaker Series.
